Film Icons & Influence… “Cry Baby”

So, it has been soooo long since I watched “Cry Baby” & I was lucky enough to catch the second half of the John Waters classic… the perfect combination of vintage & over the top “fantastic-ness”… ! I love it!

It got me to thinking about the modern 50’s twist of vintage wear, along the lines of Rockabilly… I used to rock the style for a few years when I was in college. I hate most pictures of me during this time, however, so I will spare you a look at that. Plus, I could have never pulled it off as well as some do – and of course, as well as the costume/makeup people pulled off such amazing work on this film!

So amazing… those shots of Traci Lords leave me thinking about how the hell they got lipstick so damn perfect, every time I see them!

Plus, let us not forget – a rockabilly, 50’s Johnny Depp… oh, yeah.

But, anyway – on to topics that have more to do with this blog… the fashion! Yeah, you can find rockabilly wear all over… but, there are a few choice options out there on the good ol’ net:

Those extremely hot pinup dresses can be found at Baby Girl Boutique – along with a lot of other hottie attire.

Sometime you can wear it so much simpler, however… I mean, who could get by without a pair of black Chucks, and dark rinse, cuffed denim?

The good news? You can still find those shoes everywhere… they are made by Converse, of course… but sold so many places.

So, this is my gab on vintage style that comes from watching a “not-yet-vintage” movie… if you have no idea what I’m talking about – I suggest that you go out and rent “Cry Baby.”

And, if you don’t like it, then you can at least get an eye-full of the fantastic clothing, hair, and makeup.

So, to sum up the point of this post, allow me…

Here is my “rockabilly crash course:”

1) Tattoo

Plus…

2) Pinup Fashion

Plus, 3) Some cool kids to hang out with at your local Rockabilly bar

Plus, 4) Any “Cramps” album

Plus,

5) A case of PBR

Equals… something – at least – close to pulling it off….

(Although, a little “Reverend” doesn’t hurt either.)
